I was fortunate to work with Monica on an initiative to build a national community of digital education professionals. We set-up the Anti-racism in Learning Technology group for staff working in UK Higher Education. Monica's insight and expertise in building communities was central to establishing a community that soon involved over 100 professionals from 30 institutions. We set up a number of subgroups with members and had consistent engagement and feedback from members during early phases of the community journey. As we worked through the complexities of establishing a community that embraces diversity, Monica's knowledge and vision were invaluable. She combined a deep understanding of the challenges faced by under-represented groups in organisations with energy and a practical approach to just 'getting stuff done'! Dr Monica Chavez was a key component of the British Council and University of Liverpool team working on an IDB-funded project in Peru to support state university professors to strengthen their online teaching skills during the pandemic.
Monica did a fantastic job of leading 6 university teams through a number of guided activities and consultation (all of her own design) so that they could work together to design, establish, and maintain their own virtual communities  These communities  were a key mechanism to expand the reach and impact of the program within each university, and also supported the long-term sustainability of innovation.

As the Microsoft Teams for Education Product Manager I worked with Monica during our collaboration on the UK's national rollout.
